- The Reds are looking to rebuild, Prem revelation Maddison is among targets.
- The Foxes value him at £60m.
- The player's not sure about joining a club with no Champions League football.
- Lille goalkeeper Maignan is on the radar, €35m could seal the deal.
Duncan Castles reports via Daily Record that Man United are interested in the 22-year-old attacking midfielder James Maddison from Leicester City and have contacted the representatives. Maddison had a stellar debut campaign in the Premier League after joining from Norwich City for roughly £22m. He scored seven goals providing as many assists.
The stumbling blocks are numerous though. First, Leicester City's valuation of the player is £60m which could be deemed excessive. Second, Maddison has reservations about not playing in the Champions League if he is to leave his club. Finally, he's not sure Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could manage his game time adequately.
Castles also writes about United's interest in Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan, valued at €35m (£31m). The 23-year-old kept 15 clean sheets last season as his club finished second. He has been called up by France.
United's hunt for a new goalkeeper clearly indicates lack of progress in David De Gea contract talks as his deal will expire in 2020 with no option to trigger one more year. Castles insists United's offer for Ajax shot stopper Andre Onana was rejected. Ajax are prepared to accept €40m though.
Any of those needed?
