Transfer rater: Alderweireld to Man United
Brendon Netto shares his view
Why it will happen: United have made no secret of their desire to sign the Belgian, who is regarded as one of the best in his position. With the centre-back refusing to sign a new deal, it makes sense for Spurs to cash in now rather than lose him for his release clause of £25m next summer.
Why it won’t happen: Spurs chief Daniel Levy may dig his heels in lest this compromise portrays an air of weakness in the market. Meanwhile, United may try to drive the price down further given their progress in negotiations for Yerry Mina and end up losing out.
Prediction: It’s proven to be one of the transfer sagas that has dominated this summer’s window and it remains uncertain. With the deadline drawing nearer though, something’s got to give and logic dictates that it would be best for all parties if Alderweireld was allowed his move to Old Trafford.
