World Cup winner is back
"Pogba is a man on a mission, he appears very driven, he has personal goals set for the season and indeed his career, he has huge expectations in himself this year just like we have. He, like a couple of others, stepped up and played this game with little or no preparation. He was handed the captaincy, more on this later and makes the decision to take the penalty. He controlled the game, and yes I've heard it said he had a bit of mongrel in him today... I believe he did."
Not Valencia but Pogba
"I know Jose has said Valencia is the captain. I don't disagree with Jose very often, but on this point I do. Valencia is not a captain. He doesn't lead the team he doesn't have the dressing room. Players don't look to him for leadership or direction. Who do they look to? Paul Pogba. I believe making Paul Pogba captain would be a masterstroke. It will be the making of Pogba himself. It will tighten and strengthen his relationship with Jose. And it will be the making of this team. Results will come from having a strong leader."
How good were Bailly and Lindelof!?
"They were so so good! We all wanted it and here it is. I take my hat off to Jose for being patient and allowing Lindelof time to get up to speed with the Premier League and find his feet at United. I believe he has timed it exactly right. To all those who say Jose only buys players for immediate results, I say check out Lindelof and check out Dalot while you are there."
Goodbye Ashley Young?
"Well done Luke Shaw. A solid game on defence and a first senior goal. Jose has wanted more attack from left and he got it today from Luke. Apart from Shaw, no one would have been happier to see that goal than Jose himself. Well played Shaw. You might just get some more starts as a result of today."
Why would keep Darmian while letting Fosu-Mensah go?
"Darmian. Enough said. He needs to go. His mind is not in the game. Which leads me to why have we loaned out Fosu-Mensah? I'd take him over Darmian any day. He is young - sure, but he has shown he can handle the Premier League and is ready to get some game time. In my opinion, it is a mistake can't quite fathom."
Rash must find balance in his game
"Rashford. We all love him he screams United and is a very likeable young man. But he continues to waste opportunities and is not a clinical finisher, which is surely the very definition of a striker. The question is when will he become a striker."
"Fred and Pereira - solid start. And will only be better for the run.
"All in all. A big tick from United and Jose. Well played."
