Expert view: Alessio Romagnoli is the centre-back that United need
Writing for Football Transfer Tavern, Dan Briard argues that the Italian has what it takes to turn the Red Devils into a more consistent side.
"Manchester United are looking a completely different and far better side to the one they were under Jose Mourinho. Things are looking very positive under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the club are just six points away from Chelsea in 4th position. Everything has come together nicely as United find themselves within a fighting chance of striving towards a place in the top four."
Work to do
"However, their defence is still a problem as it's significantly weaker than rivals around them. To improve that situation, United should go all out for a dominant, quality centre-back in the form of AC Milan's Alessio Romagnoli. Captain Romagnoli, who is valued at £36 million on Transfermarkt, is normally one of Milan's most consistent performers."
A bright prospect
"When fit, Romagnoli always sees out the ninety minutes for the Italian club and never fails to give his all, something United would really admire in one of their centre-backs. The 24-year-old definitely has enough experience under his belt by now to have a major impact. Romagnoli has 21 appearances to his name this season already, proving to be a reliable defender AC Milan to have."
Ideal partner for Lindelof
"Partnered next to the new and improved Victor Lindelof could see the Red Devils find a formidable partnership that leads them forward to a more successful campaign to the one they're currently enduring. Solskjaer will remain in hope that he is trusted to implement change at the club during the January transfer window and signing Romagnoli could make an exceptional difference to his team."
