Gareth Southgate pretty much closes door for Lingard in England squad as things stand
- Three Lions' boss doesn't want to have privileged players in his squad.
- Alli and Lingard weren't called up.
- Southgate points attacking stats of Sancho and Sterling out.
- Lingard only has one assist since last December.
Jesse Lingard has been omitted from the latest England squad, to the surprise of few. The forever young 26-year-old attacker has one goal contribution since last December, an assist against Rochdale, and that's it.
England boss Gareth Southgate why he left certain players out: "If I bring those guys back in, who am I going to leave out? Does it mean leaving out somebody who is scoring freely and playing exceptionally well just because they’re younger? Everyone within the squad would look and say: 'OK, there’s privileged access for certain players'."
He then addresses Lingard's case: "Jesse is a player that's always played well for us. He's never let us down. His performance level for England has been excellent.
