Everton's Director of Football warned Mourinho about Lukaku: 'He is a big baby, you know'
- Lukaku was all set to join Chelsea in the summer of 2017.
- However, United intervened at the last minute and the Belgian moved to Old Trafford.
- Everton's sporting director Steve Walsh reveals he tried to talk Mourinho out of signing the striker.
Speaking to The Athletic, Walsh said: "It is not about collecting players, it is about having a clear plan and a strategy of how you want to play. When Jose signed Romelu Lukaku from Everton, I remember saying to him, 'You have to be careful with Lukaku. He is a big baby, you know'.
"He said he could handle him. I don't think he really got Lukaku on-side mentally. That is the case with him and Paul Pogba. They are more about themselves than the team. I wouldn't have touched them. Because they are good players doesn't mean you are going to get a good team out of it."
Lukaku appeared all set to join Chelsea in the summer of 2017 before Mourinho intervened at the 11th hour and secured the Belgian's transfer to Old Trafford for £72 million.
The former Everton man failed to make an impact for the Red Devils and joined Inter Milan for a fee of £73 million last summer.
