Ex-Liverpool starlet reveals Roy Hodgson sold him to Fulham by mistake as he 'had chosen the wrong Alex'

"It was a bit difficult for Liverpool to replace me, but when I was in Fulham and before I signed up, I had a conversation with Roy Hodgson on the phone, where we found out that he had chosen the wrong Alex," former Liverpool starlet Alexander Kacaniklic said on the fotbollskanalen podcast.

"In his head, he thought he had sold another Alex for Konchesky. But then it was too late. It's a little fun!

"Then he just told me I was welcome back in Liverpool with open arms, but that I could do what I felt. By then I had already made my mind up and was very excited about coming to Fulham."

Hodgson was appointed at Liverpool in the summer of 2010. One of his first signings in charge of the Reds was Paul Konchesky, who he'd worked with at Fulham.

Academy players Lauri Dalla Vale and Kacaniklic headed in the opposite direction along with £3.5m as a part of the swap deal for Konchesky.

Paul went on to leave Anfield for Leicester in 2011, Roy didn't last a season at the helm of Liverpool while Kacaniklic left Craven Cottage in 2016. Alex moved back to his homeland last summer as he signed for Swedish side Hammarby.
