Two Belarussian footballers 'heavily beaten' by police on the way to training
  • Krumkacy Minsk players Pawel Rassolski and Siarhej Kazieka have been "heavily beaten" by police and law enforcement.
  • According to the police, they attacked a patrol car during the riots in the Belarusian capital on Saturday and had to be arrested.
  • However, according to players, they had been on their way towards the training base before they were stopped and "severely beaten" by undercover militia agents.
  • Kazieka had to be hospitalised, he was diagnosed with kidney and back injuries.
  • Belarus is currently in a political crisis as its president Aleksandr Lukashenko has refused to step down from his post after allegedly losing the elections to opposition candidate Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
  • The official data claims that the 66-year-old Lukashenko, who has held the post since 1994, has received 80 per cent of the vote. This result looks quite spurious and has been disputed by reporters and ordinary citizens.
  • Hundreds of thousands of people have marched in a peaceful protest against Lukashenko's rule, only to be faced with police brutality and torture.
