Cristiano Ronaldo has become football's top goalscorer on Sunday as Juventus defeated Cagliari 3-1. The Portuguese netted a hattrick on the occasion, which meant he has surpassed Pele's 767 goals - and now stands at 770.
Pele himself took to Instagram to congratulate Ron on reaching a truly historic landmark.
"Cristiano, life is a solo flight. Each makes his own journey. And what a beautiful journey you are having! I admire you a lot, I love watching you play and this is no secret to anyone. Congratulations on breaking my record of goals in official matches.
"My only regret is not being able to give you a hug today. But I leave this photo in your honor, with great affection, as the symbol of a friendship that has existed for many years."
The official count for Pele often stops at 757, instead of 767 - but Ronaldo included goals the Braziliant scored for the Sao Paulo state team and Brazilian military team. Now Cristiano is most certainly top of the all-time goalscoring chart.
