One club seems likelier to sign Erling Haaland than others – 4 reasons why

Erling Haaland is a hot property among the European top clubs. There's a good chance he leaves Borussia Dortmund this summer, especially if his club fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Man United, Real Madrid and Barcelona have arguably been the teams linked the most to the Norwegian striker. However, what should be considered is there's another club who, unlike those 3, has no issues in terms of finances or ambitions (United fans, look away).

This club is Manchester City. Here's why.

They need a replacement for Aguero

The Argentinian is clearly on the wane as injuries (and covid-19 effects) are taking their toll on him. He's only played 454 minutes this season for his club scoring 3 goals. And anyway he's 33 in June.

As for their other option in Jesus, he doesn't seem ready to lead the line yet. He does have a decent 12 goals in 30 games but that's almost nothing compared to Haaland's numbers.

In fact, Riyad Mahrez (9), Raheem Sterling (9) and Ilkay Gundogan (12) have scored more despite not being strikers.

Man City are rich

And in fact, they're not just sound financially, they can earn some money by selling players and by clearing their wage bill.

Aguero is reportedly on around £230,000 per week and that's a lot of money. Reinvesting this or even slightly more in Haaland seems like a great decision.

Pep Guardiola

Many players dream about working with Pep. Let's just admit that the allure and the pull of Pep are stronger than that of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (even though he's Haaland's former coach at Molde) or of Ronald Koeman. Since Haaland is not French, he's unlikely to hold Zinedine Zidane as his childhood idol, as well.

What helps is that Pep has a highly successful team ready to fight for all trophies. At United, Haaland would be thrown into a team with uncertain ambitions and one that struggles in the transfer market.

With all due respect to United, a lack of ambition and faltering transfer campaigns is what Haaland already has at Borussia Dortmund (who also go farther than United in the Champions League).

Alf-Inge Haaland played for Man City

Erling's father spent 3 years at this club. While this might seem like a romantic argument, who knows if the super striker cherishes this connection through his dad.

He's a self-admitted Leeds United fan – another club where his father played – but it doesn't seem likely Erling would go to Elland Road to bring Leeds back to the Champions League.
