Incredible: River Plate plays with 35-year-old midfielder in goal and 0 substitutions – still wins the game

River Plate had over 20 cases of COVID in their squad ahead of their game against Santa Fe in the Libertadores Cup group stage - however, the match had to go ahead and it did.

River Plate had only 11 available players, which left them with no changes to make throughout the game. To everyone's surprise, River Plate won the game 2-1 - but that isn't even the best part of this story!

All of their goalkeepers were unavailable due to the coronavirus, so Argentine midfielder Enzo Perez, most famously known to European fans from his stints at Valencia and Benfica, had to start in goal.

The midfielder who played with Lionel Messi at the 2018 FIFA World Cup was a superb makeshift keeper - in fact, he played so well that he was awarded the man of the match award afterwards.

In case you didn't know, Perez is 35 years old and is only 177 cms tall - that's less than 5'11 and not an ideal height for a keeper at all!

A truly remarkable story and a win for the ages for River Plate.
