Mexico's Gold Cup clash against Canada halted due to anti-gay chants

On Friday, Mexico beat Canada 2–1 to secure a place in the 2021 Gold Cup final where they will face the United States.

However, the semi-final showdown was marred in controversy due to anti-gay chants from the El Tricolor supporters throughout the game.

Things got so nasty that the match was even halted late in the second half as match officials pleaded with the fans to stop their homophobic chanting.

Last month, FIFA issued a $65,000 fine and forced Mexico to play 2 home matches behind closed doors following anti-gay chants during an Olympic qualifier.
