Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has explained his decision to substitute debutant Patrick Dorgu at half-time during their 2-1 win over Leicester City, citing the Dane's anxiety as a key factor.

Dorgu, who started at right wingback, impressed in the first half, but was surprisingly replaced by Alejandro Garnacho at the break. Amorim revealed that Dorgu was "a little bit anxious" in some moments, which led to his early substitution.

The United boss also defended his decision to play Dorgu on the right wingback, despite the left-footed player being expected to solve the team's problems on the left.

Amorim pointed to Dorgu's history of playing on the right in his previous team, and emphasised the importance of having wingers who can play on both sides.

“If you see the history of Dorgu in the last team he played a lot of games on the right,” Amorim added.

“We have to have wingers who can play both sides like Dalot. It’s a really important thing.

“Sometimes you need a left foot on the right side to come inside and connect in a different way, and sometimes you need a right-footer to connect and cross more balls.”
