Arsenal are in deep trouble - reports

The carnage of injuries in the attacking department continued at Arsenal yesterday with the long-term absence of Kai Havertz - a severe blow that punishes the decision not to sign a striker during the winter transfer window.

Arsenal have made a terrible mistake, as Kai Havertz has now joined the list of injured attackers - already comprising Saka, Gabriel Jesus, and more recently Gabriel Martinelli. Manager Mikel Arteta was counting on his German international to lead his front three, but the winter training camp in Dubai, rather than bolstering fitness, resulted in a hamstring injury that should rule him out until the end of the season.

This is a dreadful blow for the Gunners, who had long hesitated to reinforce their squad during the winter market. Their targets ranged from Ollie Watkins to Alexander Isak, with Benjamin Sesko and even Dusan Vlahovic also in the frame - not minor deals, but major signings costing tens of millions of euros. Consequently, Arsenal decided to stick with their original squad, despite it already being heavily depleted by injuries.
