Stefan Effenberg calls for Goretzka's DFB return

At FC Bayern, Leon Goretzka was sidelined at the start of the season. Yet despite his bleak prospects, the midfielder stayed in Munich and consistently made himself available for selection. With success: the 30-year-old now regularly features under coach Vincent Kompany. Former international Stefan Effenberg is now even demanding his return to the DFB squad.
On Wednesday evening, Leon Goretzka played the full 90 minutes for Bayern – and not as a rotation player in a Bundesliga match against some random underdog, but in the Champions League playoffs against Celtic.
The German record champions' 2-1 (1-0) win in Scotland was also thanks to the midfield veteran. Goretzka dedicated himself to the team, plugging numerous gaps in the defence.
