'The reality says different': Di Maria speaks on ex-teammate Cristiano Ronaldo calling himself the GOAT
Angel Di Maria has poured cold water on Cristiano Ronaldo naming himself the greatest football player ever.
In his response, Di Maria said: “It doesn’t surprise me. I played with him at Real Madrid for 4 years.
"He’s always been like this, striving to be the best. But unfortunately for him, he was born in the wrong generation, because there was another chosen one.
"The final reality is there in the numbers, one has 8 Ballon d’Ors, the other 5, it’s quite a difference.
"Then there is Messi who won the World Cup which makes a huge difference, and another 2 Copa América’s as well.
"For me, there is no doubt, that Lionel Messi is the best footballer in history,” Di Maria concluded.
Di Maria and Ronaldo played together at Real Madrid winning major titles like the Champions League but he clearly rates his international teammate Messi higher.
In 2022, Di Maria helped Messi win the World Cup in Qatar. A year ago they won the Copa America in Brazil.
