'Don't associate me with your filthy ideas. Let's not allow fascism!' – Portuguese footballer outrages by post from right-wing party
Portuguese footballer Joana Marchao has expressed her outrage after the regional branch of the right-wing party Chega ("Enough!") in Abrantes used her photo in a social media post. The photo was accompanied by the caption "Ours," referencing Marchao's recent contract extension with Servette.
In response, Marchao posted on Instagram: "Ours? Don't associate me with your filthy ideas! Let's not allow fascism!"
The regional branch of Chega in Abrantes apologized for using Marchao’s photo without permission, noting that the image was publicly available. They clarified that the post was intended to congratulate the athlete, as the party represents the residents of the municipality, and they did not use her photo for political purposes. They reiterated their congratulations to Marchao for representing Abrantes so well.
