Canal+ not planning to take Ligue 1 broadcasting amid DAZN court dispute

18 February, 18:17

On February 28, the Paris Economic Activities Court will make a ruling on part of the dispute between DAZN and the LFP.

The court has been asked by the professional football authorities to decide whether or not to compel the main Ligue 1 broadcaster (which covers 8 out of 9 matches, with the final one on beIN Sports) to pay the €35 million it has put under escrow. DAZN claims that the contract terms were violated, particularly regarding the fight against piracy and the lack of participation from some clubs in improving the product and content.

Regardless of the outcome, DAZN's future with Ligue 1 is uncertain. A clause allowing the contract to be terminated after the 2024-25 season could be activated in December 2025.

Meanwhile, Canal+, which has been in discussions, and its owner Vincent Bollore, have stated they are not involved in this matter and are not currently considering replacing DAZN, despite many in French football hoping for such a move.
