Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that he was being less than truthful when he stated that his team had only a 1% chance of progressing from their Champions League play-off against Real Madrid.

Guardiola's side face a daunting task as they travel to the Bernabeu on Wednesday, needing to overturn a 3-2 deficit from the first leg.

However, the City boss has now admitted that he was being coy about his team's chances, saying "I lied to you. We have more than a 1% chance of getting through the tie."

A convincing 4-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday will have boosted City's confidence, and they will be looking to build on that momentum as they seek to overturn the deficit against the holders.

The first leg had seen City lead 2-1 until late goals from Brahim Diaz and Jude Bellingham turned the tie in Real Madrid's favour.
