Courtois: Real Madrid were disrespected today. This match could've been played on Sunday
“Today we were disrespected. The physical strain is very big, the match could’ve been played on Sunday at 18:30,” Thibaut Courtois said after Real Madrid beat Villarreal.
“We play when we have to play, but it is not normal to play on Saturday after playing 120 minutes on Wednesday.
“La Liga doesn't want to schedule the big three teams' matches on the same day. In the Premier League, the teams involved in the Champions League play on the same day.
"It was disrespectful to the team and our players because someone could have gotten injured.
“We didn’t start the game well but that’s normal. We were very tired," Courtois surmised.
You could see the Real Madrid players looking beyond exhausted after the game against Villarreal.
Real Madrid had to rely on their experience and superior talent to win the game 2-1 and come away with all three points.
