Atletico president Cerezo: 'Courtois should keep quiet and calm'
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo led the delegation at a meeting with FC Barcelona's board ahead of their upcoming match at the Metropolitano on Sunday.
In an unusual tone, Cerezo has criticized the VAR decision to cancel Julian Alvarez’s penalty against Real Madrid, as well as Thibaut Courtois. Despite always speaking highly of the Belgian goalkeeper, Cerezo had harsh words after Courtois’ criticism following the Champions League derby.
After the match, Courtois said, “I’m tired of this constant victimization and always crying about things like this. In the end, referees don’t want to benefit any team, neither in Spain nor in Europe.”
In response, Cerezo fired back: “Courtois should keep quiet and stay calm. He should be grateful for having been at Atletico. He’s a great goalkeeper, but he needs to be a gentleman, just like he was with us.”
