Diego's farewell match to exclude Mesut Ozil and Tim Wiese
Next Saturday, one of the most spectacular Bundesliga players of the last 20 years, Diego, will play his farewell match at the Weserstadion in Bremen, surrounded by former teammates from clubs like Werder, Juventus, Wolfsburg, Atletico Madrid, and the Brazilian national team.
However, according to BILD, two key figures from the 2009 DFB-Pokal win, Mesut Ozil and Tim Wiese, will be absent from the event. Werder's spokesperson explained that they and Diego agreed not to invite Ozil due to his recent associations with the far-right Turkish movement "Grey Wolves." Ozil has a tattoo linked to this nationalist group.
Wiese, whose relationship with Werder has been strained for years due to his controversial views, was also not invited. Werder cited his public break with the club, including a court case over a stadium ban, and the club’s refusal to entertain further interactions.
Wiese responded, acknowledging he wasn’t invited and wished Diego the best, expressing his love for Werder, but criticizing the club's current leadership.
