Manuel Neuer could make surprise return to Germany for 2026 World Cup after Ter Stegen injury - BILD
Manuel Neuer could make a surprise return to Germany's national team for the 2026 World Cup following Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury.
After ter Stegen was sidelined with a serious knee injury, there has been uncertainty over Germany’s goalkeeper position. With Baumann and Nubel temporarily filling in, the door remains open for Neuer, despite his initial retirement after the 2024 Euro.
Neuer’s decision to retire was partly influenced by his uncertain contract situation at Bayern Munich, but since renewing his contract until 2026, he could now be in the mix for the World Cup.
According to BILD, if ter Stegen’s recovery doesn’t go as planned, Germany’s coach, Julian Nagelsmann, may reconsider his options, including bringing Neuer back into the fold.
Neuer himself has not ruled out a return, citing the 2026 World Cup as a key motivator.
