William Gallas, once a defender for Chelsea, is unconvinced by Jadon Sancho and doesn’t want to see him in a Blues shirt beyond the current season. Chelsea loaned the ex-Dortmund standout from Premier League rivals Manchester United ahead of this campaign.

"With players as talented as him, I just don’t get why they don’t deliver, why he isn’t doing what he did at Borussia Dortmund," the Frenchman said.

Reflecting on the high expectations for Sancho at Chelsea, Gallas said: "We thought he could shine like he did at Borussia Dortmund - and he did at first. But you’ve got to be consistent. He needs to step up more, but right now, he’s not giving us what we want to see from him. If he goes back to Manchester United now, it means he’s failed. It means he can’t reach that next level, that the Premier League might just be too tough for him," William Gallas said.

However, Gallas believes Chelsea would be better off paying a penalty to United to avoid permanently signing the winger. Sancho’s contract with United runs until 2026. His €16 million annual salary is a major concern for the Red Devils, even with Chelsea currently covering €6 million of it. Should the Blues opt against a permanent move, United would likely find it extremely difficult to offload the 24-year-old.
