Didier Deschamps: 'We’ll do everything to turn things around'

21 March, 08:04

France national team head coach Didier Deschamps has commented on his side’s 2-0 defeat to Croatia in the first leg of the Nations League quarter-finals.

"We started well, but there were losses of possession and technical errors. We handed the opposition chances. In the second half, we played much better.

"Mike Maignan saved a penalty, and after that, the game opened up. Still, we had some needless turnovers. We did what was needed in the second half but couldn’t convert our chances.

"We lost the first match, and now we need to push to win the second one at home. Our first half was at the level we’re capable of. We’ll do everything to turn things around. For all we put in during the first half, we were punished. There was far too much technical sloppiness.

"Mbappe’s performance? Kylian’s in good nick. Yes, he didn’t get everything spot-on, but he was very lively and put in a massive shift against their low defensive block. He can always play better, but he was very useful," Didier Deschamps said.
