'It was a nice story that I scored a goal': Leon Goretzka reacts to shining in first Germany match after 16 months

Leon Goretzka provided a memorable performance to help Germany pick up a 2-1 win over Italy in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals clash, scoring the winning goal.

This was his first international match after a 16-month hiatus and speaking on it after the game, he stated: "It definitely feels nice to be back. I'm very happy to have played here today.

"Of course it wasn't easy to be away from the national team.I want to look ahead and not to the past. It's a nice story that I scored a goal today.

"I thought we played well, we were better than the opponent even in the first-half although we conceded. In the second-half, we were more present in the [Italian] box. The team showed desire, that's what they did well in the past few months. The fans feel that we want to win."
