'It was not Cristiano as spearhead': Portugal boss Martinez defends Ronaldo's struggles against Denmark

Cristiano Ronaldo had a forgettable outing for Portugal in their 1-0 loss to Denmark in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League quarterfinal.

He did not manage a single shot on target, gaining criticism from some fans for his lack of impact.

Roberto Martinez, however, has defended the veteran striker by stating: "The stop from November to March, there are times when the intensity, pace and synchronization is not there and it was not Cristiano as spearhead, it was in the areas that we expected and it was not the problem of the spearhead."

Ronaldo has 28 goals in 33 matches for Al-Nassr this season, but did not have a solid first internatinoal match of 2025.
