Barcelona reportedly holding back Pablo Torre’s appearances to avoid €1m clause

Pablo Torre's playing time at Barcelona has stalled, and financial reasons could be a factor. After shining with a goal and two assists in the Copa del Rey against Barbastro, he seemed poised for a bigger role. However, since that match, he has played just 25 minutes across two games, despite performing well when given chances.

A key issue is the contract clause from his 2022 transfer from Racing Santander. SPORT reports that Barcelona agreed to pay €1m for every 10 matches in which Torre plays at least 45 minutes, up to €14m. He has reached nine such games, meaning his next qualifying appearance would trigger the first payment to Racing. But over three months later, that 10th game has yet to come.

In his first season, Torre played four matches meeting the 45-minute threshold. Last year’s loan to Girona didn’t count, and this season, he briefly looked set for regular minutes before suddenly dropping out of the rotation. The timing has raised speculation that Barcelona may be deliberately limiting his game time to avoid paying Racing.

With his contract running until 2026, Torre’s future remains uncertain. If Barcelona continue to sideline him, a summer transfer—whether permanent or another loan—could be on the horizon.
