Mert Nobre: 'Guler has the qualities to win the Ballon d'Or, but a wrong decision could hinder his career'
Mert Nobre, former Fenerbahce player, shared his thoughts on Arda Guler, who moved from Fenerbahce to Real Madrid and has been linked with Inter.
“I had the opportunity to see Arda debut at Fenerbahce. A true football talent, something I haven’t seen in Turkey for at least 15 years,” Nobre said. He was particularly impressed by Guler’s qualities and personality, saying, “His qualities and personality are higher than I imagined.”
When asked about Inter as a potential destination, Nobre said, “I don’t know if it will be the ideal place, but I guarantee it will be a good place, as Hakan already knows him and can help him grow further. He has everything to do it.” However, he also acknowledged that Serie A is a tough league and that Guler would need time to adapt. “It’s a very different league from what he’s used to, coming from Spain and Turkey. It requires growth tactically, physically, and mentally for such a difficult league,” Nobre explained.
On the possibility of Guler fitting into Inter’s 3-5-2 formation, Nobre suggested, “I think he plays better behind the forwards, as he has good vision and a strong shot from outside the area. If he plays in the five-man midfield, it won’t be as easy for him physically, as he doesn’t have the same physical characteristics as Barella or Mkhitaryan.”
Finally, when asked about Guler’s potential to win the Ballon d’Or, Nobre acknowledged his talent but cautioned, “He has all the qualities to make it, but there is still a long way to go. This journey starts with the decision to stay or leave Real Madrid. A wrong decision could be a big obstacle in his career, especially if his goal is to win the Ballon d’Or.”
