Real Madrid unlikely to move for Zubimendi, focus shifts to Cherki - reports

Real Madrid are considering Martin Zubimendi as a midfield reinforcement for next summer, but several factors make his signing unlikely.

The club already has Tchouameni, Camavinga, and Valverde in similar roles, and at 26, Zubimendi does not align with their strategy of signing younger talents. Additionally, his €60m release clause, with Arsenal and Manchester United keen to meet it, makes a deal complicated.

SPORT reports that given these obstacles, Madrid are looking at alternatives, with Rayan Cherki emerging as a strong candidate. The 21-year-old Lyon midfielder, recommended by Zidane, offers creativity and versatility—qualities the club values.

His contract runs until 2026, and while his market value is around €30m, Lyon could demand more, especially with PSG also interested. If Madrid move for him, he would further strengthen their French core alongside Mbappe, Camavinga, Tchouameni, and Mendy.
