Former Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has praised the club’s decision to extend captain Virgil van Dijk’s contract, highlighting his leadership and influence.
"Van Dijk brings authority to the team’s play. He directs from the back, players turn to him for advice and strength.
"He connects brilliantly with younger players and demands excellence where needed," Kirkland said.
Kirkland also commended Liverpool’s discreet approach to negotiations. "As a Liverpool fan, I was a bit worried when contracts weren’t finalised, but Liverpool don’t react publicly or leak to the press. They always handle business the right way," the ex-goalkeeper added.
