'The standards dropped well below': Joe Cole rips into Chelsea after Legia Warsaw defeat
Former Chelsea winger Joe Cole was brutal about the Blues' performance in a 2-1 defeat to Legia Warsaw in the Conference League quarter-final.
"The standards dropped well below the standards that this group of players have been, particularly in this competition," Cole said on TNT Sports during the broadcast.
"I thought from the start they didn’t look at it. The ball was not moving quick enough. There wasn’t enough energy in the press. They looked like a team just waiting for the game to finish…
"You have to have energy, and there was no energy tonight… That’s as lacklustre a performance as I’ve seen from this group of players."
Chelsea's performances have been concerning for a while, but the Legia Warsaw defeat might represent a new low for Enzo Maresca, with the team booed after the final whistle even as they booked a place in the Conference League semi-final.
