'This year is different, I'm learning and becoming more complete': Malo Gusto on his development
Chelsea defender Malo Gusto has spoken about his evolving role under head coach Enzo Maresca as the Blues prepare for their UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-final second leg against Legia Warsaw.
The 21-year-old Frenchman, who has been a regular presence on the right flank this season, revealed how Maresca’s tactical approach has seen him take on a more central role during matches - a shift that is helping shape him into a more complete player.
"It’s completely different to last year, but that is the coach’s plan. I just try to do my best.
"A few players, Reece as well, play the same way, but the most important thing for me and for us as a right-back is to help the team and that’s what we try to do. I just try to give my best on the pitch when the coach puts me in.
"There are many things I can still improve. I have to work a lot more. For me it’s not enough, I’m just at the beginning of my career, so I have to continue to work.
"This year is different to last year, but I’ve learned a lot of things about the new position, the way I have to think on the pitch. For me it’s good to continue to be more complete. For the team, it’s important for me to try to help as much as I can, that’s why I try to do as much as possible," Gusto has stated.
Malo Gusto has played 32 matches this season, providing 2 assists. See detailed stats on Tribuna.com.
