Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kaua Santos suffers season-ending ACL injury amid Manchester United interest
Eintracht Frankfurt have suffered a major blow with the news that goalkeeper Kaua Santos has torn his anterior cruciate ligament, ruling him out for the rest of the season. The 22-year-old Brazilian sustained the injury during the Europa League quarter-final second leg against Tottenham Hotspur.
The incident, which resulted in a penalty and eventually Frankfurt’s elimination from the competition, also saw Maddison suffer a hip issue. For Santos, however, the injury is more severe, bringing a premature end to a season in which he had firmly established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, particularly in the absence of veteran Kevin Trapp.
Santos had recently signed a contract extension with Eintracht Frankfurt until 2030, signalling the club’s long-term trust in him. However, his performances had already begun to attract interest from abroad. Manchester United are among the clubs that have been monitoring his progress closely, with scouts attending several matches this season to assess his potential as a long-term option in goal.
Despite his injury setback, the interest from the Premier League giants remains, as United continue to assess their goalkeeping options heading into the summer. For now, though, Frankfurt must turn to alternative options between the posts as they push to secure European qualification in the final stretch of the Bundesliga season.
