Sverre Nypan wasn’t targeted as immediate midfield solution for Arsenal - David Ornstein
Arsenal are unlikely to pursue an alternative for Rosenborg's Sverre Nypan if he completes a move to Aston Villa, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein.
Nypan, the 18-year-old midfielder, has been linked with the Gunners in recent months, but Ornstein clarified that Nypan was never viewed as an urgent midfield solution at the Emirates. Instead, his potential signing was seen as a smart market opportunity.
"Sverre Nypan wasn’t being targeted because Arsenal absolutely needed him as an immediate midfield option, he was more a market opportunity for a young talent, the like of which you could say they need to be better at recruiting.
"So if he goes to Aston Villa - which is the direction of travel - or elsewhere, it doesn’t mean Arsenal will automatically seek an alternative. It wouldn’t surprise me if further reinforcements are sought, but I don’t have any particular info on that as things stand," Ornstein has shared.
