Scamacca: 'Difficulties used to seem insurmountable, but now I’ve found inner balance'

Italian striker Gianluca Scamacca of Atalanta definitely won’t consider this season a success, as he has only played five minutes in one match and suffered two serious hamstring injuries that have kept him out of Gian Piero Gasperini’s team.

His return to action is roughly expected in the second half of May, but whether he’ll be able to play at all this season remains uncertain.

"I won’t deny that this is the most difficult period of my sporting life. Being out of the game for so long is a new experience, but it has also helped me get to know myself better. In the past, any difficulty seemed insurmountable, but now I’ve found an inner balance that I never had before.

Without a doubt, the biggest disappointment for me was the injury in the match against Torino. It felt like the ground was pulled from under me just when I began to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I had been feeling reborn, but in just a few seconds, everything was taken away again.

I watched the Atalanta vs. Real Madrid UEFA Super Cup match at home. That was one of those games I would have wanted to experience on the pitch more than any other, and watching it on TV was almost unbearable. That night, I truly understood what it means to be sidelined," said the Italian forward.
