'I was writhing in pain': Alphonso Davies opens up emotionally about his injury
Alphonso Davies has shared the harrowing details of the severe knee injury that has ruled him out for the remainder of the season. The Bayern Munich left-back suffered a torn ACL during Canada’s CONCACAF Nations League third-place match against the USA.
"I got hit on the outside of my right foot. It got stuck in the turf, and I twisted it," Davies recounted, describing the incident that occurred just six minutes into the game. He immediately knew something was wrong: "My entire leg went numb - from my knee to my ankle. I was writhing in pain," the 24-year-old revealed.
He continued: "The adrenaline surges through your body. Mentally, I thought I could still catch my opponent. But my body was saying, 'No way that’s happening.' "
Despite the traumatic experience, Davies remained philosophical: "Injuries are part of the game we love. If you’re afraid of getting hurt, this sport might not be for you. But I love it."
