Boubakary Soumare likely to leave Leicester after relegation to Championship - reports
Leicester City’s relegation to the Championship has put several of their top players in the spotlight ahead of the summer transfer window, with midfielder Boubakary Soumare emerging as one of the most sought-after names, according to RMC Sport.
The 26-year-old Frenchman has been a rare bright spot in a difficult season for the Foxes. After a slow start, he established himself as a key figure in the squad, becoming one of the six most-used players this season with 30 appearances in all competitions. He also ranks second at the club for interceptions in the league with 24, just behind Wout Faes.
Soumare, who is under contract until 2026, has already drawn attention from Ligue 1 sides Monaco and Lyon in the past, and interest from France could be reignited. The former Lille midfielder was a Ligue 1 champion in 2021 under Christophe Galtier and continues to be admired for his physical presence and pace—he is among the fastest midfielders in England, having been clocked at over 33 km/h.
Leicester, looking to ease financial pressure after dropping out of the Premier League, may be willing to sell. Soumare spent last season on loan at Sevilla, where he was the fourth most-used player in the squad, and a permanent move away now seems likely as the Foxes reshape their squad.
