Giorgos Karagounis: 'I'd love to see Cristiano Ronaldo at Panathinaikos'

Former Greece international Giorgos Karagounis has suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo could make a surprise move to Panathinaikos after his contract with Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League expires this summer.

Speaking to Spin Genie, Karagounis expressed his excitement at the prospect of the Portuguese superstar joining the Greek club. "I’m not sure if we’ll ever see Cristiano Ronaldo at Wrexham, but I’d love to see him in Greece with Panathinaikos," said the ex-Fulham player and two-time European Championship winner.

Karagounis highlighted the historical significance of both Ronaldo and Panathinaikos, noting that "Panathinaikos are a great club and although we don’t know what the future holds, Ronaldo is so famous and so are Panathinaikos in Greece."

He also pointed out the connection between Ronaldo and the club's green colours, given his time at Sporting CP. "He’s already worn green with Sporting, so why not with Panathinaikos? I’d love to see it," Karagounis added.

Karagounis’ comments come amid speculation surrounding Ronaldo’s future, with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner expected to sign a new deal to continue his career, potentially eyeing another World Cup appearance in 2026.
