Rodrygo's future in doubt amid Vinicius renewal and Xabi Alonso rumours – reports
Rodrygo may face an uncertain future at Real Madrid, as the club prepares to extend Vinicius Jr.’s contract and continues to be linked with Xabi Alonso as a potential new manager.
While Vinicius is reportedly close to renewing his deal until 2029 or 2030, concern has grown around Rodrygo’s role in the team. The possible arrival of Xabi Alonso, known for his preference for tactical balance, could lead to changes in the attacking lineup — and Rodrygo appears to be the most vulnerable.
On El Larguero, journalist Javier Herraez remarked, “All four up front can’t play. Rodrygo might have his ears burning.” His inconsistency this season has already put him under scrutiny, and he could even lose his place in the starting eleven for the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.
The club is reportedly prepared to meet with Alonso at the end of the season to discuss his future. Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro acknowledged the likelihood of interest from Alonso’s former clubs, suggesting there’s a “gentleman’s agreement” in place if one of them makes an approach.
If Alonso arrives and prioritises structural balance, Rodrygo could be the biggest casualty in Madrid’s front line next season.
