Barcelona sweep all: U19 win Youth League, ending Trabzonspor’s dream
No happy ending for Trabzonspor's fairytale. After a remarkable run to the Youth League final—eliminating three Italian sides in a row (Juventus, Atalanta, and Inter)—the Turkish team fell short against Barcelona U19 in the final match of the competition's tenth edition.
The final, held on Monday at the Colovray Sports Centre near UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, saw Juliano Belletti’s Barcelona dominate from start to finish, winning 4-1. Goals from Ibrahim Diarra (11') and Cuenca (18') quickly put the match in Barcelona’s control.
In the second half, Barcelona struck again with Hugo Alba (56') and another from Diarra (68'), before Trabzonspor salvaged a consolation goal through Tibukoglu in the 88th minute.
This marks Barcelona’s third Youth League title, making them the most successful club in the competition’s history, surpassing Chelsea (with two titles).
Barcelona's dream season continues: the senior men’s team just won the Copa del Rey (against Barcelona B), are leading La Liga, and are in the Champions League semifinals where they’ll face Inter. Meanwhile, the women’s team will play the Champions League final against Arsenal on May 24 in Lisbon.
