Christophe Dugarry has criticised Real Madrid for its conflict with referees. The Madrid club lost 2-3 to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final. Before the match, the club’s TV station released a video criticizing the appointment of referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea. After the match, several more videos were published, expressing dissatisfaction with the refereeing.
"Where is the responsibility to set an example, which the most successful club in the world should have? I’m shocked. The authorities must punish Real Madrid very harshly. If they don’t, it will be a disaster, and people will turn away from football.
"This is an absolute disgrace. I was shocked by the pressure, slander, and dishonesty. What the directors did before the match borders on the methods of thugs, the mafia. They consciously smeared and trampled the image of football. Real has hit rock bottom, and many people will turn away from this club. I'm shocked at what this great club has turned into.
"In a few days, we’ll find out if Real will be punished. But even now, the season, which is nearing its end, is close to turning into a huge failure from a sporting point of view, although there remains a faint hope for a win in La Liga," said the former France national team player on RMC Sport.
