Messi leads Inter Miami's bid to repeat Barca's historic comeback vs Vancouver
Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano is drawing inspiration from his playing days at Barcelona, where he witnessed one of the greatest comebacks in soccer history, "La Remontada."
Mascherano believes his team, led by Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, can replicate a similar feat against the Vancouver Whitecaps in the Champions Cup semifinal.
After losing the first leg 2-0 on the road, Inter Miami faces a daunting task, needing to win by three goals in regulation to advance to the championship game.
However, Mascherano is undeterred, citing the experience of his star players who were part of the Barcelona team that overturned a 4-0 deficit against Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.
"That night I learned that nothing is impossible," Mascherano said. "Anything can happen. Absolutely anything."
He added that elite athletes thrive under pressure and that his team is confident they can reverse the result.
