Xabi Alonso has set the wheels in motion for his departure from Bayer Leverkusen, reportedly informing the club and his team that he will not continue as coach next season.

Although he didn't disclose his future destination, speculation suggests he'll join Real Madrid, with whom he's believed to have a long-standing agreement.

The news follows Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro's public request for clarification on Alonso's situation.

Alonso responded, "The decision has to be made in the next three or four weeks; we can't wait until the end of the season. We'll know before the end of the season."

With a year left on his contract, Leverkusen values Alonso's departure between €15-20 million, according to German sources, while Spanish sources cite €8 million.

Alonso's announcement suggests his path to Real Madrid is clear, potentially paving the way for Carlo Ancelotti's exit and Alonso's appointment. Reports of Ancelotti's alleged agreement to coach Brazil could be linked to Alonso's impending departure.
