According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, Arsenal have opened talks over a new contract for William Saliba.

The Premier League club is hoping to end all the uncertainty over his future amid claims of Real Madrid's interest.

Saliba's current deal expires in two years, potentially putting Arsenal in a vulnerable position.

So, their sporting director Andrea Berta has initiated contacts with Saliba's camp in a bid to extend his stay.

Arsenal are yet to put a concrete contract offer on the table, but it is expected to arrive as the talks will reach an agreement in principle.

Saliba is understood to be happy at Arsenal but wants his next contract to reflect his status as one of the best centre-backs in the world.
