Former Everton owner Farhad Moshiri invested £400m in club’s new stadium

Former Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has opened up about his £400 million contribution to the club’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, expressing hope that the move will help the Toffees 'bridge the gap' to the Premier League’s elite.

Everton will play their final competitive fixture at Goodison Park on Sunday before relocating to the state-of-the-art 52,888-capacity stadium next season. The new ground, which has already hosted two successful test events, is expected to become a transformative asset for the Merseyside club.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Moshiri shared his emotional connection to Goodison and explained the difficult decision to move. "We were all in love with Goodison. I was in love with Goodison. Nobody wanted to move. But the reason we had to leave was partly infrastructural, partly financial. I had to put in £400 million. The rest had to come from other investors."

The stadium, which has cost around £750 million in total, stands as a major legacy of Moshiri’s eight-year tenure-one otherwise marred by off-pitch controversies, financial turbulence, and frequent managerial changes.

Looking ahead, Moshiri expressed optimism about the club’s future under the Friedkin Group, who took over last year. "The fact we have the Friedkin Group, really good custodians in a new stadium – I think this is our best chance to bridge the gap. Our fans have suffered far too long."

Reflecting on his time in charge, Moshiri added: "My biggest sadness is not to have attended more games. I wish I’d been able to but I was constrained by my work. I have no regrets."
