Spalletti on why he turned down Milan: Loyalty to Inter fans
In his new book, "Paradise Exists... But How Much Effort", Luciano Spalletti opens up about his past and reveals why he turned down a potential move to Milan.
The Italy coach explains that despite being close to signing with the Rossoneri, he couldn't bring himself to join the rival club due to his deep affection for Inter and its fans.
Spalletti cites the bitter way he was treated by Inter when he left the club as the reason for his discomfort.
He felt that Inter fans would have been hurt by his decision to join Milan, and he couldn't forgive himself for that.
"I didn't feel like hurting those who had always respected me, in many cases loved me: the Nerazzurri fans," he said.
Spalletti's loyalty to Inter fans and his sense of gratitude towards them ultimately won out, and he chose not to pursue the move to Milan.
Spalletti managed Inter between 2017 and 2019.
