Liverpool 'identify' Tomas Araujo as Huijsen alternative

Liverpool are exploring alternatives to bolster their defensive ranks this summer, with Benfica's Tomas Araujo emerging as a potential target if Dean Huijsen opts for another club.

The 22-year-old Portuguese international has been impressing in the right-back role for Benfica, showcasing his explosive pace and defensive prowess.

Araujo's ability to defend the right channel and his impressive speed, clocking nearly 36km/h in the Champions League, make him an attractive prospect for Liverpool.

Although not a top priority, Araujo's name is on the Reds' radar, particularly with his €80million (£67million) release clause potentially coming into play in the future.

Liverpool's primary focus remains on signing Huijsen, who has a £50million release clause, but the club is prepared to consider alternatives if the Dutch-born Spain international chooses to join another club.

Araujo's connections to agent Ali Barat, who also represents Huijsen, could facilitate discussions between Liverpool and Benfica.

With Liverpool looking to reshape their squad under Arne Slot, Araujo's potential could make him a valuable addition to the team.
