Declan Rice and Jorginho return to Arsenal training ahead of clash v Newcastle
Arsenal's injury-hit squad received a boost as key players including Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, Jorginho, and Leandro Trossard were all present at team training on Wednesday ahead of their home clash with Newcastle United this Sunday, May 18.
Havertz, who has been sidelined since February following hamstring surgery, was a surprise inclusion in the session, which had taken place at the Emirates Stadium in front of supporters. There were initial fears that the 25-year-old would miss the remainder of the season, but it now appears he could make a return before the campaign ends.
Rice, 26, who missed Arsenal's 2-2 draw against Liverpool due to a hamstring issue, and Trossard, who also sustained a hamstring problem at Anfield, were both involved in the training session
However, not all of Arsenal’s players were in full training. Jurrien Timber, despite being an unused substitute against Liverpool, was not part of the on-field session and trained separately from the main group.
The Gunners will head into Sunday’s encounter with Newcastle just two points above them in the table, and with a tough record to break against the Magpies, who have defeated Arsenal three times this season, including in both legs of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
