Xabi Alonso to hold talks with Liverpool over Mac Allister - reports
Xabi Alonso is expected to speak with contacts at Liverpool about a possible move for Alexis Mac Allister in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains well-connected in football, told Football Insider that the 26-year-old midfielder has emerged as a target for Real Madrid. Alonso is widely anticipated to replace Carlo Ancelotti as manager at the Bernabeu and has already started planning for new signings.
However, Brown revealed that Liverpool are determined to block any transfer of Mac Allister following the recent departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold. Manager Arne Slot is unwilling to weaken his squad after securing the Premier League title, with Mac Allister having played the fourth-most minutes among Liverpool players this season and remaining a key part of Slotโs plans.
Brown also noted that Manchester Cityโs Rodri is expected to stay put, forcing Real Madrid to explore other midfield options. Despite Alonsoโs contacts at Liverpool and interest in Mac Allister, the Premier League club will do everything possible to retain the midfielder.
โReal Madrid have got some problems going into the window,โ Brown said. โThe manager has gone, it looks like Xabi Alonso will be the one to replace him. They need three or four top-level players, which arenโt easy to find.
โTheyโve got Alexander-Arnold coming in, so thatโs one position off their list. Alexis Mac Allister is a player I hear they have been looking at as well. The new manager knows the Liverpool scene well, heโll still have his contacts at the club and heโll be speaking to them about a possible deal. It would be a huge deal.โ
